Creations as a lifestyle
Marrakesh, 2025

Emana travelled to Morocco to collaborate with artist and founder Steven Pauwels on the evolution of Sakura Living, a luxury interior lighting and decorative brand based in Marrakesh.
The aim was to define a clear and distinctive identity shaped by the artist’s journey and reflected across the four collections, positioning the brand within the contemporary design landscape while affirming its deeper purpose: creations conceived as reminders of our human nature, designed to accompany a journey of self-mastery and co-creation.
This vision extends further through the Sakura Guide, offering a reflective framework that encourages conscious participation in everyday life.
A cohesive visual language was developed to express this philosophy with clarity and consistency across every touchpoint. Through ongoing dialogue, the narrative moved from the Sakura Living Guest House in the old medina to the artisans’ ateliers, extending toward the Atlas Mountains.

Origins
A lifestyle made tangible.
Sakura Living emerges from the personal journey of Steven Pauwels, shaped by travel, cultural encounters and a deep connection to nature. Inspired by the ephemeral beauty of the Sakura blossom, the brand explores the relationship between strength and delicacy, translating this balance into living spaces.
Rooted in craftsmanship, each collection brings together fine materials and artisanal techniques, bearing the mark of the hands that created them. The Sakura lifestyle extends beyond decoration, expressing a way of living where light and form give rise to places of clarity and intention.

Made in Marrakesh
Ecosystem of Artisans.
Marrakesh is deeply embedded in the brand’s identity. Sakura Living works closely with local artisans, from woodworkers and metal craftsmen to glassmakers, each carrying forward generations of knowledge. Craft here is relational and built on trust. Through repetition, shared skill, and collaboration, it forms a living ecosystem that influences not only the creations but also the character that defines them.

Matter & Craft
Material as a presence.
Thuja wood, hand-worked brass, glass and refined textiles define the material language across the collections. Warmth and irregularity are not concealed but celebrated, revealing the authenticity of each process. Every creation carries the imprint of its making, where texture, weight and detail express a vision grounded in nature.

Shaping Presence
From essence to expression.
The brand’s philosophy was translated into a coherent visual and spatial language. Elements were refined to build a consistent atmosphere.
This clarity extends beyond the products, shaping how Sakura Living expresses itself through imagery and communication. A unified visual identity emerged, giving the brand a presence that feels both intentional and authentic.

Living the Vision
Where craft becomes experience.
As part of the Sakura Living universe, the Guest House in Marrakesh extends beyond the collections. It reflects the brand’s way of living, expressed through atmosphere, rhythm and detail.
Here, the artist welcomes guests into a space in dialogue with the atelier and its community of artisans, allowing a more direct understanding of the values and processes behind the work. More than a stay, it becomes a place for connection and exchange, where each encounter reveals the human dimension behind the brand.
